Big State Custom Homes

Maybe you’ve already made the decision to build a house or you might be on the fence as to whether you want to build or buy a pre-existing home. Whatever the case, we want to be a resource for you so that you know exactly what to expect with the timeline.

Prior to Building: Establishing a Floor Plan

The first step you will want to take is to establish your floor plan. There are two ways to go about this. You can either find a pre-designed plan or you can work with an architect to establish a custom plan.

How many bedrooms do you need? What luxury features are important to you? Where should the master bedroom go? Once you become serious about this stage, this is where you will begin to determine the answer to all of these questions. When working with an architect they will help you determine what works best inside of your ideal budget.

Prior to Building: Purchasing a Lot

In order to begin building on a lot or larger piece of land, you will need to purchase it. If you have a specific style of house in mind, be sure to do some research and find a neighborhood that not only fits your style but also allows you to build the type of style that you want. Some neighborhoods have restrictions on the square footage or type of materials that you can use.

Once you find a lot that you like it’s important to know if there are any added expenses such as septic or power. Your architect should be familiar with what you’ll need but should you have any questions feel free to reach out to us during this time as well.

*Weather, budget, and other outside factors can alter the timeline.
